Bandung City has a great opportunity to become one of the leading destinations in the medical tourism sector in Indonesia. Despite the rapid development of health facilities in the country, many Indonesians still choose to seek medical treatment abroad, both due to perceptions of quality and international appeal.

To address this challenge, the government and various stakeholders are working to encourage the public to have more confidence in domestic health services, as well as developing the potential for medical tourism as part of health tourism.

As a city with a population of 2.55 million, Bandung has adequate health infrastructure Currently, there are 42 hospitals of various classes. These facilities are reinforced by a total of 6,057 available beds, providing a ratio of 2.34 beds per 1,000 population.

Of the patients admitted to hospitals in Bandung, 60% are local residents, while the remaining 40% come from outside the city. This shows the attractiveness of Bandung as a healthcare centre that not only serves the local community, but also patients from other regions.

Clear regulations are a strong foundation in the development of this sector. The Minister of Health Regulation No. 76/2015 on Health Tourism Services is the legal basis that supports the steps to develop medical tourism.
